I have some tough news to share with you. Please, sit down. This might be difficult hear, but it’s important that you do. Ready?
Not everything is “amazing.”
Seriously, stop saying that everything is amazing. To do so dilutes the meaning of the word, and that makes me sad, because it’s a really great word!
Look, I get it. Your Greek yogurt with fresh fruit does look pretty tasty, but, it’s not amazing. And getting to the 1,427,917th level on Candy Crush is quite a feat, but, not amazing. I appreciate the enthusiasm, don’t get me wrong, but I am starting to channel my inner Inigo Montoya.
If you need some inspiration, here are a few ways to gain perspective on what is truly amazing:
- Go into nature, hike to the top of something really tall, and reflect on all the things not made by man
- Hold a newborn baby as they take their first breath of air
- Get hundreds of miles away from any city lights, and lay out under the stars on a clear night
- Observe a genuinely selfless act of sacrifice
- Experience grace
Now, get out there and experience something truly amazing! Life is too short to not understand what that really means.
